Are You Ready for the AMP Revolution?

Are You Ready for the AMP Revolution?

Google has recently stated that their Mobile Page Ranking change is rolling out early 2018. It was previously stated that they were aiming for the end of 2017 but I guess they changed their mind.
My guess is that they understand the repercussions this will have on the industry and how their new change will disrupt rankings and traffic across the board. If there was ever a time you needed to get ready for this change the time is now. Why now? Here are a few reasons to consider:

1. If you are doing SEO on your site or business you want to make sure you don’t lose your position or the advantages you have on the 1st page. My suggestion, start now, start early!
2. Its unclear (really) how far this index change will go, will they still leave regular optimized pages float alongside AMP pages like they currently have on the web, my guess is NO!
3. How long is the roll out? Will it be gradual or will it be just like past index disruptions that were made over a short period of time leaving the winners to gain everything and the losers in the dust?
4. If your site and pages are not AMP ready, you stand to lose more than just traffic and relevancy, you may very well lose a ton of business to your competitors that are AMP ready.
5. Don’t go cheap and wait to the last minute. This is an important change and needs to be taken seriously. Hire an agency to get the job done right, the 1st time!

FYI
There doesn’t seem to be any news on the horizon to AMP change affecting Adwords and Pay Per Click campaigns.

Google Officially Rolling Out AMP Into the Main Google Search Results Pages

OK, so here we go! It was recently reported that Google is taking AMP Pages (Accelerated Mobile Pages) out of their sandbox and unto the web!

Please Note: Google says that AMP pages will not receive a rankings boost! (Ummmmm I guess We Will See..)

Google announced and made the developer preview available for all to see at (g.co/ampdemo). So what exactly does this mean? What this means is mobile search users will start to see content in search results with the AMP lightning bolt logo next to it, indicating the content is available in a mobile format. This is can be compared to the “mobile friendly” format we are all used to seeing.

I MY HUMBLE OPINION!

Google has suggested in the past that load time and page speed may become mobile ranking factors across the board. Although they claim there will be no rank boost involved with this recent update, I wouldn’t get too comfortable! As a matter of fact, Google confirmed with the folks at SeachEngineLand that “where there are two identical pages, one AMP and one mobile-friendly, Google will serve the AMP page.” This sounds like preferential treatment to me and it also sounds like a major roll out for G!

Whats the Big Fuss About AMP Anyway?

Well, from what I understand, AMP is a much more efficient way to serve up pages to Mobile users. Some of the benefits described on SEL are as followed:

  • AMP pages are 4x faster, use 10x less data compared to non-AMP pages
  • On average AMP pages load in less than one second
  • 90 percent of AMP publishers experience higher CTRs
  • 80 percent of AMP publishers experience higher ad view ability rates

Ultimately G sees this as a way to better serve their Mobile consumers. Excited to see what’s on the horizon.

How long is a long time? Well it all depends on whether or not you are Mac or Windows user, especially if you manage paid ad campaigns on Bing. After years and years and years of waiting, Mac users will now have the option of getting the Bing Ads Editor with all the features of the PC version on their Mac.

From what I understand from others in the industry, the Bing editor for Mac users has long been the most highly requested feature on the Bing Ads user forum. I also here the beta version will be available in the US at SMX Advanced in Seattle on Wednesday. A Blomberg Story broke the news that Google was beginning to use RankBrain in almost all their Search Queries.

What in the World Is RankBrain?

RankBrain is Google’s new name for a machine-learning artificial intelligence system that is used to help process its search results on the SERPS! This was confirmed by Google, Blomberg and Search Engine Land. Its official, they are now using some form of AI in their Ranking Process!

What in the World Is Machine Learn?

Basically machine learning allows the system itself to learn how to do something, rather than being taught by humans or following some kind of detailed programming or command. Sound scary? It should! This is where the top digital disruptor are headed!

What Is The Difference Between AI & Machine Learning?

AI differs from machine learning, in terms of RankBrain is that they are used interchangeably when being described.

So is RankBrain the New Method Google Will Rank Search Results?

From what I understand the answer is No! RankBrain will only be part of their overall search “algorithm,” a computer program that’s used to sort through the billions of pages for particular search queries.

Google Adwords Testing SMS Messages from Text Ads

Google was recently testing an SMS texting feature on their display ads allowing a user (customer/client) to text the advertiser directly via the display ad. There’s not a whole lot of information on this feature just yet, but as you can imagine should this feature roll out, you can expect it to be popular among businesses and merchants that prefer to receive inquiries directly to their mobile device and offer a potential user of their services another avenue to engage them further.

My Thoughts

How practical or feasible it will be for larger businesses to utilize this feature is yet to be determined. Maybe this new feature is more affective for smaller businesses.

I also see the revenue angle Google is taking and the increased potential for ads to be clicked on or utilized by a user. Therefore if the feature is used, advertisers should test it and be conscious of the potential increase in CTR or costs, which of course could be a good thing, if it leads to conversions! Ultimately how effective this new feature will be is still yet unknown.

Bing Apps Now Allows You To Edit Disapproved Ads & Text Ads

If you are currently driving traffic using Bing Ads, you can now make edits and adjustments via their App!

They recently mentioned this feature on blog: Here!

Obviously this should make life easier for marketers! I always wondered why this wasn’t an option and when it would even become an option instead of logging in directly and addressing these issues some other way, but I guess Bing got it and decided to add this option as a way to keep enhancing accessibility.
